2022 Kia Sorento Model Review in Gainesville, FL

A new season is approaching, so why not look into a new vehicle? Jenkins Kia in Gainesville, FL has several different models of the all-new 2022 Kia Sorento available today.

The 2022 Kia Sorento is a spacious mid-size 4-door, 3-row crossover that seats up to seven. The standard vehicles feature gasoline engines, but there are electric and hybrid models available for purchase.

It gets high marks all around for its fuel economy, comfort, refined cabin, peppy turbocharged engine, smooth ride, and handling. It's well-suited for both families and commuters. With a towing package, the Sorento can pull up to 3,500 lbs.

Although it's been produced since 2002, the Sorento is now thought of by many as the little brother of the larger Kia Telluride, introduced in the 2020 model year.

2022 Kia Sorento Trim Levels

The 2022 Kia Sorento's trim levels are the LX, S, X-Line S AWD, EX, X-Line EX AWD, SX, SX Prestige, and X-Line SX Prestige AWD.

The first three levels have seating for 7. The upper five levels have seating for 6, with 2nd row Captain's Chairs. All Sorentos have one-touch sliding and folding 2nd-row seating and reclining 3rd-row seats with 50/50 split-folding. All but the base level come with heated front seats.

2022 Sorento Engine Details

The standard engine in the first three trim levels is a 2.5L inline 4 cyl. producing 191 hp and rated at 24 mpg city and 29 mpg hwy. The top five trim levels have a 281 hp turbocharged 2. 5L inline 4 cyl., with 22 mpg city and 29 mpg hwy.

The non-turbo engine uses an 8-speed automatic transmission, while the turbo uses an 8-speed wet-type dual-clutch transmission, which is more performance-oriented, with faster shifts and less loss of power, and which can be shifted manually; the two Prestige levels have steering wheel mounted paddle shifters to facilitate manual shifting.

The hybrid has a 1.6L 4cyl. turbo engine and a 44.0 kW electric motor that, together, produce 227 hp and delivers 39 mpg city and 35 mpg hwy. The Sorento PHEV combines that 1.6L turbo engine with a 66.9 kW electric motor and delivers 261 hp.

Both hybrid and PHEV use a 6-speed automatic transmission. The PHEV is AWD only, and its combined fuel efficiency is 79 MPGe, with a range of 32 miles on a charge.

A Closer Look at Safety and Entertainment Features

Some standard safety equipment on all 2022 Sorentos includes lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane following assist, and forward collision avoidance assist with pedestrian detection.

Of course, all models include airbags, traction control, stability control, heated seats, power-adjustable outside mirrors, and child safety features. Cyclist Detection is available on the upper five trim levels, and a sunroof is standard on the top four levels.

While the safety features are exhaustive, the 2022 Sorento doesn't skimp on infotainment and connectivity features either. All trim levels include Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, a 6-speaker audio system, hands-free phone technology, and multiple USB and 12-volt outlets.

The base level has an 8-inch touchscreen, while all the other levels have a 10.25-inch touchscreen, as well as SiriusXM Satellite Radio, Navigation, and voice recognition. Standard on the Prestige levels is a 12-speaker Bose audio system.
