2020 Kia Optima vs 2019 Kia Optima

Serving Gainesville, FL

The Kia Optima is an attractive midsize sedan loaded with a generous amount of standard features. The Kia Optima debuted as a 2001 model, and the fourth generation of this sedan was introduced for the 2016 model year. Both the 2020 Kia Optima and 2019 Kia Optima are part of this generation. Let's take a look at these appealing, value-packed cars to see which one is right.

Performance

For 2020, Kia has shuffled around some of the standard and optional features for the Optima. However, performance capabilities are the same for both vehicles. The Optima's standard engine is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that pumps out an impressive 185 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque and is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. For drivers who upgrade to the Optima EX, they'll receive a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which generates 178 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, and is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. While horsepower falls slightly, additional torque makes it marginally quicker when accelerating from a complete stop. Finally, the top of the line Kia Optima SX gets a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which delivers an exhilarating 245 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. A traditional hybrid and a plug-in hybrid version of the Optima are also available.

Appearance

The 2020 Kia Optima's appearance is unchanged from 2019, but with sleek, stylish looks, that's a good thing! Drivers and onlookers will enjoy a sloping hood and an aerodynamic roofline. A distinct, aggressive-looking grille and crisp, bold angles give the Kia Optima the look of a sports car. If you need the practicality of a midsize sedan but love to drive a vehicle that's a real head-turner, the Kia Optima is right for you!

Features

The most significant changes for the 2020 Kia Optima are in the features department. The good news is an 8-inch touchscreen, a 6-speaker sound system, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard for both model years. Meanwhile, wireless phone charging is now standard for the top three 2020 Optima trims. Additionally, pedestrian detection is now standard on every Optima model.
